WILLOW GRANGE

Paying for Care Home Fees – Funding the Cost

Here at Willow Grange, we understand that paying nursing home fees has the potential to become stressful, especially if your loved one requires a one-to-one care plan. At Willow Grange, we are here to help you find the best option possible. There are several different funding options that could help with care home fees that will help alleviate any financial concerns you may have.

In some situations, you may be eligible for assistance from the local council with paying for home care fees. In other circumstances, you might be able to get help with paying for care home fees from the NHS.

PRIVATE NURSING HOME FEES

Will the council help with the funding of live-in dementia care costs?

Whether the council will offer help with funding care home fees ultimately depends on a number of different factors. In some situations, councils will pay towards some or most of the private nursing home fees, but these are based on a care needs assessment. This assessment allows the council to determine what level of care your family member needs within the home. This information is then used to carry out a means test, which determines if you are able to qualify for the funding. A means test involves looking at your capital and income when paying nursing home fees to determine what help is available.

About Paralax

Will I be eligible for NHS funding for help with private nursing home fees?

NHS funding can be extremely difficult to navigate and depends on a wide range of factors. The main factor in their decision is whether or not the needs of your loved one are primarily health-based. If this is the case, then the NHS can arrange and pay for care under what is known as the NHS Continuing Healthcare (NHS CHC). If you are eligible for this funding, your care home placement will be completely free and at no cost to you or other family members.

During the assessment, the council will refer you if they decide your loved one is eligible for the NHS CHC. If you are in a situation where you do not quite meet NHS CHC criteria but you still require nursing care, then the NHS will pay a contribution towards private nursing home fees.
