Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Respite Care?

Respite care is temporary care that can be helpful when usual carers are in need of a break from caring. It can also be used as part of a recovery process from an accident, injury or illness. Respite care helps both your loved one and their carer time to recuperate. It can also be valuable when additional support that cannot be achieved at home is required for a period of time.

What Does Respite Care Provide?

Here at Willow Grange, we provide specialist respite care for dementia patients within our homely environment. Your loved one will be treated as a family member, with their happiness being our top priority. They will be able to take part in any activities they feel up to, spend time with any of their visitors, and enjoy quiet time in their own private room. We will administer any medication, provide them with nutritious meals and make sure your loved one has everything they need.

Is Respite Care Free In The UK?

The council may be able to fund your loved one’s respite care following a needs and carer’s assessment. If you do not qualify from your local council, you will have to fund respite care yourself.

Who Qualifies For A Respite Grant?

A Respite Grant is also known as a Carer’s Support Grant. You will qualify for the Carer’s Support Grant if you receive Carer’s Allowance, Carer’s Benefit or Domiciliary Care Allowance (DCA). However, if you have been caring for somebody for over six months continuously, live with them and are easily contactable via telephone, you may still be entitled to the support grant.

How Long Does Respite Care Last?

Respite care is short-term, temporary care. This is usually one or two weeks but can be discussed when you speak to our friendly team at Willow Grange.

Is Respite Care The Same As Hospice Care?

It is similar but not the same. Respite care can include medical care but you do not have to be terminally ill to receive it. When needed, respite care can be provided to a hospice patient to give their carer a break.

What Is Respite Care Like At Willow Grange?

Here at Willow Grange, we will do everything we can to make your loved one feel at home. Our care plans are tailored to your loved one’s individual needs and our specialist nurses will be available whenever assistance is needed. Your loved one will be able to spend their time as they please, whether they would like to socialise and join in with care home activities, or enjoy some quiet time reading a book in their room. To learn more about what respite care is like at Willow Grange, please get in touch today on 020 8399 8948. Our kind and caring team will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

What Are The Benefits Of Respite Care?

The main benefit of respite care is that the carer can receive a break whilst their loved one still gets the support that they need. This can relieve a lot of stress for both the carer and their loved one. Respite care also gives the loved one a chance to socialise and enjoy activities with others from within the home, something that can be incredibly valuable for their wellbeing and mental health.
