WILLOW GRANGE

The Importance of Activities in Nursing Homes

Throughout the years that we have been providing specialist dementia care and support, we have identified a number of great activities for the elderly in nursing homes to enjoy. All of the activities that we provide help to engage and stimulate our residents. Our passionate team is mindful to ensure that residents are not forced to participate in activities. If your loved one would rather spend time enjoying an alternative activity or having some quiet time to themselves, they are also supported to do this. We work hard to ensure that Willow Grange provides residents with a warm, relaxing, and fun environment to enjoy.

Varied Activities for the Elderly in Nursing Homes

We pride ourselves on offering a broad range of activities for nursing home patients. It is important for any recreational therapist to ensure that they are matching the right activity to the resident’s individual physical and cognitive abilities. For example, it is likely that activities for nursing home residents with dementia will differ from those of our regular care residents.

Many activities in nursing homes can be done either individually or in groups. We have split our activities into two main categories that all work towards a common care goal. Those are “physical activities” and “stimulating activities”.

Our Approach to Activities for Nursing Home Patients

It comes as no surprise that people are more inclined to get involved in an activity and enjoy it if it matches their interests. Therefore, we actively encourage residents’ input when it comes to choosing activities for Willow Grange. If your loved one really enjoys a certain activity, please let us know and we will be more than happy to make that happen.
